No, while LifeWise is held during the school day, it does not interfere with students’ mandatory courses. The class schedule is set by school personnel in consultation with LifeWise representatives. Classes are held during non-core academic periods, such as during lunch or electives.
LifeWise classes focus on core themes of the Bible, what we refer to as the “main and plain things” of Scripture, with emphasis on the gospel of Jesus Christ. Each lesson reviews a Bible passage as well as a “Living LifeWise” character trait, such as respect, love or kindness.
LifeWise is complementary to before and after-school programs. The primary distinctive feature of LifeWise is that it operates during the school day, thereby engaging with all students whose parents have given permission for them to attend.
LifeWise Academy classes are taught by local community members who are trained and equipped to deliver our Bible-based curriculum. The teachers and assistants are active members of our partner churches. Every candidate completes an application, affirms the ministry’s statement of faith and code of conduct, provides a pastoral reference, and interviews with the local LifeWise advisory board. A thorough background check at the county, state, and national level is completed by ProScreening, an independent third party.
LifeWise Academy classes are held each semester of the school year. Our spring semester will commence the week of January 26 and end the week of May 11. Classes meet once a week, during the lunch/recess period, at a church close to the school. We offer open enrollment so students can join our classes at any time upon completion of the enrollment permission form on our website.
