FAQs

Q. Does LifeWise interfere with classes during the school day?

No, while LifeWise is held during the school day, it does not interfere with students’ mandatory courses. The class schedule is set by school personnel in consultation with LifeWise representatives. Classes are held during non-core academic periods, such as during lunch or electives.

Q. What does LifeWise teach?

LifeWise classes focus on core themes of the Bible, what we refer to as the “main and plain things” of Scripture, with emphasis on the gospel of Jesus Christ. Each lesson reviews a Bible passage as well as a “Living LifeWise” character trait, such as respect, love or kindness.

Q. How does LifeWise compare with before and after-school programs?

LifeWise is complementary to before and after-school programs. The primary distinctive feature of LifeWise is that it operates during the school day, thereby engaging with all students whose parents have given permission for them to attend.

Q. Is teaching the Bible during the school day really legal?

Yes! Students may attend religious classes during the school day if the program is held off school property, privately funded, and parent-permitted. The concept of released time religious instruction has been upheld multiple times at the U.S. Supreme Court.

Q. Is Bible education limited to HHI Elementary students?

No, LifeWise is not limited to HHI Elementary students. You may request LifeWise at other schools by contacting us at beaufortcountysc@lifewise.org.

Q. How can a parent enroll their child in LifeWise?

Parents can enroll their child in a few simple steps: (1) Click the Enroll Now button above & submit form, (2) Verify your email address by following the instructions sent to your inbox, (3) Watch for an email from Program Director Lydia Mediavilla containing a ready-to-use template to send to the school principal, (4) Send the template email to grant permission for your child to be released on Fridays to attend LifeWise. Once the email is sent to the principal, your child will be officially enrolled!

Q. What are the details of the LifeWise program serving Hilton Head Island Elementary School?

For the 2025–2026 school year, the program runs from October 24 to May 15 and takes place during lunch and recess. Students bring a bagged lunch from home and either walk or ride a shuttle with LifeWise chaperones to Island Lutheran Church, which is across the street from the school. Enrollment is now open to students in grades 1 and 2.
